What hairdressing equipment do you need in your salon?

It doesn’t matter if you’re starting your own hairdressing business or upgrading your salon, you’ll want to make sure you have all the hairdressing equipment you need,

This is what your customers will expect you to have

1. It goes without saying that you’ll be using scissors, brushes, combs and styling products, but when was the last time you checked that your or your staff’s cutting and styling products were up to the mark?

2. Your salon chairs should be of good quality and accurately represent the right image for your salon. Your clients will expect different types of chairs for a traditional village barber shop compared to a trendy downtown salon. Do your chairs meet the expectations of your customers?

3. Laundry areas are important, and yours should be clean, sanitary, and in good repair. If yours have seen better days, why not think about replacing them?

4. Your salon-quality hair dryers, whether hand-held or hood-type, are definitely going to get a lot of use and therefore need to work just fine. Since they’ll be worn all day every day, it makes sense to get the best you can afford. Not only will they give better results, but they will also dry your hair faster, so you can see more clients throughout the day.

5. Your styling areas are probably the busiest areas of your salon, and where cutting and styling takes place. You’ll want to make sure there’s plenty of space for everything your barbers and stylists need, and that the mirrors are big enough and the color scheme is appropriate for your clientele.

6. It is important to remember that the furniture in the reception and welcome area is just as important as anything that happens in your room. Clients will likely remember waiting in old capes or mismatched chairs as much as they remember your fantastic haircut. Does your reception furniture need to be replaced because it is worn out?

7. You’ll need plenty of storage space for all your supplies, gowns, products, and any product information, too. Instead of having everything lying around and in plain sight for our customers, why not make sure everything is neat and easy to find?

8. Your barbers and stylists will benefit from having their own carts so they can keep all their hairdressing equipment organized in one place. If they often work at different stations, or perhaps need to go to one of your other salons, then they’ll have everything they need in the right place at the right time.

9. If you offer other salon treatments, you may want to have stools for your estheticians or other stylists to sit on while they perform the treatments. These stools will make it much easier for your stylists and estheticians, and will also reduce the risk of back problems and other aches and pains.

10. Although you probably have a budget in mind, you’ll want to make sure you have everything you need for your salon. It makes no sense to economize and not have what you or your customers need. That is not value for money. You may not need the most expensive salon equipment, or the largest and most feature packed, but the most basic might not be the right one. It makes no sense to buy hairdressing chairs, or styling areas that are not right, just because they are cheap.

Now you know what you need, do you have all the hairdressing equipment you need in your salon?
